1946 Cessna 140 restoration
Wow - haven’t posted in a while. We started on the Cessna 140 restoration project on Monday. Pretty much the majority of the day was taking inventory of all the parts that need polishing and rivet cleaning etc (ailerons, elevators, trims). I’m really excited about working on the plane as it gives me an inside look at the innerworkings of 1946 technology.
One of things I would like to do is create a time line for the different phases of restoration so that we don’t get distracted and that we keep on track. Many things to do in this type of restoration we envision. The list is extremely long. We hope to get the majority of the work done within a year.
Right now we’re getting the grunt work out of the way. We’ll spend about two weeks just cleaning grimey rivet heads on the fuselage. Sounds easy but the amount of time you can spend on one rivet is surprising.
Anyhow, I’ll be sure to post pics and keep everyone updated as the project comes along.
